Helicity Formalism for Spin - 2 Particles ∗

We develop the helicity formalism for spin-2 particles and apply it to the case of gravity in flat extra dimensions. We then implement the large extra dimensions scenario of Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos and Dvali in the program AMEGIC++, allowing for an easy calculation of arbitrary processes involving the emission or exchange of gravitons. We complete the set of Feynman rules derived by Han, Lykke...

Massive Particles from Massless Spinors

Spinors are lightlike. How do they combine to make massive particles? We visit the zoo of Lagrangian singularities, or caustics, in spacetime projections from spin spacethe phase space of lightlike, 8spinor flows. We find that the species living there are the elementary particles. Codimension J = (1, 2, 3, 4) phase singularities vortex lines, sheets, tubes, and knots, are classified by the Coxe...

What Is Spin? and a Complement (for Massless Spin 2, and Massive Spin

This is a late answer to question #79 by R.I. Khrapko, “Does plane wave not carry a spin?,” Am. J. Phys. 69, 405 (2001), and a complement (for massless spin 2, and massive spin 1 2 and 1) to the paper by H.C. Ohanian, What is spin?, Am. J. Phys. 54, 500–505 (1985). In particular, it is confirmed that “spin” is a classical quantity which can be calculated for any field using its definition, name...

Universal Limits on Massless High-Spin Particles

We present a model-independent argument showing that massless particles interacting with gravity in a Minkowski background space can have at most spin two. This result is proven by extending a famous theorem due to Weinberg and Witten to theories that do not possess a gauge-invariant stress-energy tensor.

'r Decays with Spin-3/2 T and V~ and Peculiarities of Massless Rarita-schwinger Particles*

-r decays involving spin-3/2 T and V~ are discussed. In contrast to a previous study, it is argued that a current-current interaction amplitude involving the most general V,A currents for spin-3/2 T and VT can be chosen to be consistent with existing experimental data on 'c decays. An apparent discontinuity in the M,+ + 0 limit of V,A currents constructed from spin-3/2 'c and VT is considered. ...
